Top 3 Simple & Cost Effective Steps for Protecting Your Home Work Environment

Are you concerned about your company’s security as employees continue to use at home work capabilities? We have been hearing from business leaders that they are aware and eager to implement extra security cautions, but feel they may not have the funds to do so.

CEO Paul Sponcia joined Karen Clark, Director of Somerset Technology Advisory Services, for a four part series of conversation. Karen has a strong background in large healthcare operations as a CIO for over 20 years. Part 2 of their conversation was centered around cost effective steps to protect your home work environment.

These “first” steps are simple but have huge advantages to protecting your business and the security of your company.

Top inexpensive ways businesses can take the first steps to upping their at home security:

  1. Enable two-factor authentication- There are a plethora of inexpensive, some even free, applications that can add this extra layer of protection. They are super easy to implement and increase your security by factor of 10, if not more.
  2. Turn on two-factor authentication for any platforms that offer it. In addition, many platforms – including Office 365- have two-factor authentication integrated into them. By sampling enabling them, you amp your security up with no extra fees.
  3. Leverage a virtual desktop environment at the office. By doing so, people can connect in from home but be directed to a desktop on a server that really controls what they can get to and have access to.

During this time, technology should be a tool that aids your business in success, not harm it. By taking these cost effective steps, you add a layer of protection to allow technology to be a positive thing rather than a frightening tool.
